Willmott Dixon is taking part in two events this year to raise money for two crucial charities you can read about below!
1st event - On the 21st of July, Willmott Dixon London and East Directors and Trainees will be taking on the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge!!
The Welsh Three Peaks includes a total walking distance of 17 miles (27.4km) and an ascent of 2334 metres (7657ft). This distance will be travelled over three of the most iconic mountains in Wales - Snowdon in the North, Cadair Idris in mid-Wales, and Pen y Fan in the South.
2nd event - On the 22nd of August 2023 there will be a 7 aside football tournament with teams of 7-9 players. The teams will consist of Willmott Dixon employees and our Supply Chain Partners!
The money donated will go towards two charities local to Hertfordshire; Youth Talk and Herts Minds. These charities offer confidential and free one-to-one counselling support to teenagers from 13 years to young adults aged 25 who reside in Hertfordshire/St Albans and the surrounding area. This year we wanted to give to local charities to encourage growth and ensure that everyone has the accessibility and knowledge of these supportive areas if needs be.
These contributions are highly significant to us as it will support the struggling youth of today, but also because one of our trainees tragically lost a close friend earlier this year. They wanted to make sure that today's youngsters felt supported and understand that they can turn to others for help in difficult times and do not have to go through life alone. Bringing in money will enable these two charities to grow their operations and increase public awareness of the available aid for individuals in need.
A little bit of information about the charities:
Youth Talk:
https://youthtalk.org.uk/
Youth Talk provide free, confidential one-to-one counselling support to 13-25 year olds who live, study or work in Hertfordshire.
Young people don’t need anyone’s permission to talk to Youth Talk, and every conversation is kept completely confidential. Their focus is on early intervention and because there are no referrals or layers of assessments to get through, they can start supporting young people quickly to stop things from getting worse.
Youth Talk offer on average between 80 – 100 counselling sessions a week. But sadly, for the first time in their 25 year history, we have 100 young people waiting for help right now. Young people need these charities more than ever before.
Herts Minds:
https://www.hertsmindnetwork.org/
This charity struck our interest as they are quite a local charity who focus on smaller branches such as the Nightlight Crisis café in Stevenage. - https://www.hertsmindnetwork.org/services-for-adults/crisis-support/crisis-cafes/
This café is a place where anyone can walk in for a free one to one chat with someone when they are struggling with whatever is on their mind. These cafes are being planted in more and more towns and we know that this money would be a good chance to boost the success and growth of them.
Herts minds also have a new support service for dads of children under 5 years old and provide high quality training services to voluntary, statutory and private organisations with a focus on mental health and wellbeing.
Both Willmott Dixon London & East and Youth Talk/Herts Minds will be grateful for any donation, which will considerably help both organisations.
