St Andrews to Manchester cycle for Charlie · 21 August 2019 to 23 August 2019 ·
In March of this year, men's first-team player on the St Andrews football team, Charlie Andrews, was diagnosed with Burkitt's lymphoma, an aggressive form of blood cancer. Charlie is a postgraduate student at the University of St Andrews and was predicted to complete his masters at the end of August. Unfortunately, due to intense chemotherapy and necessary treatment he is having to put this dream on hold. However, at the start of July, he has announced that he is kicking cancer's butt!!
On August 21st, 12 players, coaches, and staff will be cycling from St Andrews, Scotland to Manchester, England. For all my Alabamians this will be the equivalent to cycling from Mobile to Birmingham, but extra hilly. We will get to visit Charlie and raise money for a charity called Bloodwise. Bloodwise is a UK based charity who has dedicated their time, funding, and research to find a cure for all different types of blood cancer.
Throughout the duration of 3 days, we will endure many different challenges. Many of us have little to no experience distance cycling (myself being one of them). We will be riding between 90-115 miles a day to complete the 280-mile ride.
