Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
You may wonder why I'm running for this charity! During lockdown I realised a lot about the importance of community. So many people became isolated very quickly, and not just the elderly. Even though students and young people are used to meeting 'online', it's not the same, and the increase in our mental health problems has been well documented. There aren't many charities that aim to help people, young and old, to connect with their communities in order to make them safer. I was amazed when I found out about the many activities volunteers get involved in, up and down the country. So little is known about this 57 year old charity and how it has changed - which is also why I'm supporting them. Read on to find out more....!
Neighbourhood Watch believes in the power of neighbours working together to build safer, vibrant and inclusive communities, help prevent crime and make a positive, sustainable difference in communities. Local Neighbourhood Watch schemes work in a variety of ways that reflect the needs of the local community. This includes: sharing crime prevention advice and information; running awareness campaigns; holding social events and awards for local people and businesses; leading community projects, such as litter picks, a community café, flood defence response, presentations in schools and work with young people and children and community messaging with the police.
The impact of Neighbourhood Watch can be seen at: Impact Report 2020/21
I'd like to acknowledge my invaluable running coach, John, and to thank Marko, my training partner, and finally, Lottie, who has always supported me through every challenge, including this one!
