Burundi Deployment
Campaign by Global Relief Trust (RCN 1191793)
Global Relief Trust co-founder, staff and volunteers will be flying out to Burundi to oversee and begin our biggest project to date!

Story

On the 15th of October, I will be flying out to Burundi.

We will begin the construction of Team GRT's biggest project to date:

Our £89,000 school that will provide 300 students with free education that will enhance their young minds into becoming the future intellectuals of their communities, and perhaps the leaders of the next generation!

Why Burundi?

  • In 2015, the primary school enrolment rate for children in Burundi (aged 5–14) was 61 percent.
  • Only a 66 percent completion rate for primary education.
  • 26 percent of children have to work alongside going to school
  • The student–teacher ratio in Burundi in 2011 was 29.4:1.
  • Around 25 percent of all the country's schools were destroyed during a long lasting civil war between the Hutu and Tutsi tribes which only ended in 2006, killing over 300,000 innocent people, including many teachers who were killed or became internally displaced.

"If the pictures of tens of thousands of human bodies being gnawed on by dogs do not wake us out of our apathy, I do not know what will."
Undersecretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan in 1994, as quoted in The East Africa, 18 March 1996.

A nation damaged by a past of genocide and bloody violence needs our support, and I urge you all to donate what you can so that we can Educate and Empower the future generations of Burundi!

Thank you
