Story
Tony Cammiss (Burleys MD) and Jon Collins (TCL Regional Director) along with a few friends are aiming to conquer the Alps by completing the Etape du Tour in July 2018. The Etape is an annual event where amateur cyclist challenge themselves to complete one of the genuine Tour de France stages, normally with a few mountains in the way. After completing the Etape in 2016, Jon was quoted as saying "Thank god it's over, I will never do that again"....yet here we are!
Whilst all keen cyclists, there are not too many alpine climbs in Leicestershire, and enduring over 7-8 hours in the saddle including 4 significant climbs through the Alps will certainly be a challenge!
Cycling is a hobby for us all, but we also want to try and raise a little money and awareness for the charity CRY, in memory of one of our colleagues, Chris Williamson (Fencing Operations Manager at TCL) who passed away at far too young an age in November 2016. In memory of Chris the TCL Midlands team have chosen CRY as their nominated charity for 2018.
We do hope that you are able to support us on this challenge, and despite the photo on this page, we will not be attempting this on a tandem! (though some people do).
Thanks, Jon & Tony
