At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

I am raising money for Alzheimer's Society. This charity not only helps find treatment for those who suffer from Alzheimer's and Vascular Dementia, like my Grandpa, but they also provide care and support for those who are living with it.
Over the past few years me and my family and I have watched my Grandpa deteriorate whilst my Grandma did her best to take care of him, first at home, and then while he's been in a care facility.

Growing up, I used to go visit my grandparents every Thursday for dinner. Gramps would always be playing a military game on his computer, doing a soduko or crossword while I watched Grandma cook. We'd sit to have dinner, fight over who got to lick the custard spoon, then complain about how bad Emmerdale was as we sat to watch it. After Emmerdale, we'd watch Eastenders, complain some more, and he'd eat an orange, which he always shared with me.
Grandpa stopped remembering who I was about a year ago. He knew I was familiar, but he didn’t know why. Over Christmas, when I visited him at the care home, he started eating an orange. I was sat on his bed talking with Grandma when he handed me half of it. It was at this moment that I realised how much I missed our weekly tradition, how much I missed him.

With your help and donations I will hopefully reach my target of £2000. This money will help Alzheimer's Society gain more knowledge and resources to find a prevention or cure, so we can have more time with our loved ones. As well as to provide the tools to support those who live with it.
