London Marathon 2024 · 21 April 2024 ·

Join Team Alzheimer's Society at the world-famous TCS London Marathon and provide help and hope for people affected by dementia.

Story

It was 2013 and I was rather pregnant with my first child when my sister rang to tell me my beautiful Mum, who was just 63, had Alzheimer's. Watching someone you love so much go through something so utterly debilitating and not being to do a thing to help is heartbreaking. The first time they don't know who you are is beyond tough and with Mum, once she 'went', there was no finding 'her' again. It took an enormous toll on family members to care for her and to fight for the right care, medication and setting for her to be in. I'm a 40 year old, grown woman with 2 children and I still want and need my Mum! Going through some huge life changes without her has been really difficult and I miss her every single day. Alzehimer's is truly cruel and sadly more and more people are affected by dementia. Even if I can help 1 person and their family by raising money for research to help provide much needed treatments, then my life's work is done.

Alzheimer’s Society are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. They do this by giving help to those living with dementia today and by providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding ground-breaking research.
