We build electric eco-fences in Africa to protect Africa's threatened ecosystems

Story

Dear Friends!!!

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Once again we are raising money for Rhino Ark (www.rhinoark.org), an organisation in Kenya which is dedicated to protecting the most valuable of natural resources such as Natural Water Towers and Mountain Forests as well as Rhino, Elephant and other wildlife. Further 80,000 community members benefit and prosper from Rhino Ark's work.

Rhino Ark raising money since 1988 for the building of electric eco-fences around mountain ecosystems in Kenya, such as Aberdare National Park, Mt. Kenya and Eburu Forest. This provides an "ark" for wildlife such as rhino, leopard, elephant and bongo but also safeguards vital watertable habitat

In addition the fences help keep poachers out of the natural habitats of Rhino, Elephant, etc. They are an important tool in the preservation of the remaining forest in Kenya by helping to stop illegal logging, prevent human/wildlife conflicts, which invariably results in the demise of the wildlife. They also control poaching of some of the most endangered species such as Black Rhino, Elephant and Bongo.

In short, Rhino Ark's mission is to develop sustainable solutions to the challenges facing mountain forest ecosystems and threatened biodiversity areas. The funds raised support both the endowment fund for the maintenance of the electrified fences already built around The Aberdares and blog 22 of the Mau Forest and the new fence being built around Mt. Kenya National Park.

Both Mt. Kenya and blog 22 of the Mau Forest are, like the Aberdares, essential natural Water Towers for Kenya and therefore a small, but important, part of saving the the human species.

Most people run marathons to raise funds, NOT US, Rhino Charge Fundraising Team 64 participate in the Rhino Charge, arguably one of the most extreme 4x4 vehicle event in the world, somewhere in the Kenyan Bush in which the team has to visit 13 checkpoints, in the shortest distance, in less than 10 hours.

Speed has no place in this event. In order to complete the event in the shortest possible distance, the team has to cross rivers, rocks and impossible obstacles, manhandle the vehicle over ground where no vehicle should go, winch the vehicle up and down shear cliffs, hurdle down slopes where brakes have no effect. You get bruises in places you didn’t imagine possible and certainly never want again but in the end its all worth it.

If you want to know more about the event itself please go to www.rhinocharge.co.ke

Team 64, 2021 - The 5 team members were all part the the team the last time the event was held in 2020.

The car has gone back to its home garage where it was conceived and build in time for the 2006 Rhino Charge and is not in good hands and back to its top performing ways.

Below something about each team member:

Mbabu “Legs” Muturi: Mbabu has participated in the charge for 17 years, the last nine years with Team 64. Two Gauntlet trophies, a 4th place and 2nd highest fundraising trophy is not bad but now he is suddenly hungry for the "real" thing. STATS: 51, 6'5", 95kg, curly, brown eyes.

Omri “Smily” Cohen: Omri can not stay away after his comeback, Omri brings a smile and a giggle to the team as predicted and he showed that he can now also work the winch so he continues to be real asset to the team.  STATS: 44, 5'9", 81kg, brown eyes.

Al “Limey” Bush: He might be a Limey but he has proved that he is a handy guy to have around, if for no other reason than his shear entertainment value, STATS: 45, 5’8”, 78kg (we hope), blond, blue eyes,

Sidney "Stanley" Wachira: Sidney is on his second Charge only so not much to tell yet but we certainly hope that he does better than Omri's first time out. Sidney's only experience with the Rhino Charge so far is from the sidelines with a bottle of Vodka in his hand and two checkpoints in 2019, he is in for a major surprise :-)

Peter “The Transporter” Bonde Nielsen: The man who is the blood line of Car 64. A true fighter who will tackle anything put in front of him. What ever it takes – Peter will find a way, just don't tell him something is impossible, he might just break the car trying to prove you wrong. STATS: 55, 6'3", 98kg, brown eyes.

The Rhino Charge is organised exclusively by volunteers so all donations received by Rhino Ark go 100% to the mission stated above (Please check whether your chosen method of donating incurs any charges)

That is the end of our ramble. We hope that you have been inspired to donate generously!!

ps. Please do not hesitate to encourage/force your friends, family, co-workers, anyone you know or even total strangers to donate generously!!!
