RHINO CHARGE 2021

Since its inception in 1988, 2020 was the first year that the
annual Rhino Charge did not take place. With the ravaging pandemic sweeping
across the globe, Rhino Charge was the put aside for obvious reasons.

It has been a year of uncertainty, fear, trauma and loss. Kenya
suffers not just from the actual effects of the pandemic, but also finds itself
at a stranglehold with limited tourists coming in. The far-reaching
consequences of the global lockdowns and travel restrictions have led to both positives
& negatives. Whilst ushering in a respite to the natural resources of our
country, it has severely dried up funding and other monetary incomes that form
a huge part of safeguarding our environment.

With most projects undertaken by Rhino Ark now starting to feel
the cash crunch, this year’s charge will take place under exacting conditions-
strict and difficult rules on COVID protocols combined with a general slump in
the economy will make this event grueling, not just physically which it always
has been, but in other ways too.

We as Team Chomz have realised that the natural world cannot be
forgotten amidst the pandemic. It is our humble request to ask you to be
generous and dig deep into difficult resources, to maintain projects that are
helping those without a voice- our fauna and flora. As economies worsen, the
environment is taking a battering. Increased illegal logging, poaching and bush
meat trade make fencing and surveillance projects critical right now, to ensure
sustainable eco systems for the world.

Apart from our desire to help where we can, this year, Team Chomz
marks the event in memory of our Team Driver and dear friend Numeir Khan- who
left us late last year. An event which was his passion and put him in the
driver's seat amongst the people he most cared about and the places he loved
best; Team Chomz want this year’s charge to be a celebration of his
spirit.
