Lake & Old Man Coniston Combo - swim (5.25 miles) climb (2,600 ft )

You may well know that my brother, Chris, lost his battle with cancer 1 July 2016. As my Dad says, people are only gone if we stop talking about them. This year there is an event that coincides with his sixth year of passing and, together with my Bro's friend, James, we'd like to do something that very much keeps Chris in our thoughts, whilst helping the organisation that looked after him so very well.
Chris had a free, adventurous, spirit and through family trips, scouts and living in Lancaster (Uni) he loved the Lake District, especially Coniston where he canoed, built fires, climbed mountains and shared great times with friends and family. At his request, some of his ashes are placed at the top of Old Man Coniston.
We're challenging ourselves to swim Lake Coniston end-to-end (5.25 miles) and climb Old Man Coniston the following day (2,600 ft) to visit his ashes at the top.
We're trying to find time to train - but are worried about this one. It's a long way, with no current to help us along! We'll then need to cast aside any shattered muscles and put on our hiking boots the next day.
However, raising as much money as possible for the Marsden, whilst doing a Coniston Combo challenge in a place where he loved is our way to honour Bro's memory. Every stroke and kick during training and the event will be for and be thinking of Chris; which we enjoy.
Chris' fundraising page is a perpetual 'relay' of fundraisers over time. We've picked up the baton at £6,848.36 and hope to take it to £7,500. If you could help James and I achieve this with a donation we would be very grateful!
