Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Myself, Vicki & Paul are doing a charity 50KM Ultra Trek in aid of raising as much money possible to help find a cure to stop this heart breaking  disease. this is close to all our hearts especially watching someone you know and love be diagnosed with this.

I have attached a short story from my brother Ryan who is 29 explaining how his life has been turned upside down in the last year.

Ryan - I have got some super shocking news, i don't really know how to say it to be honest but here goes.

After lockdown last year (March 2021) I got back to the gym after not lifting for however long.  I noticed that I had lost a lot of strength especially in my right shoulder. Long story short in the September to follow my left shoulder went exactly the same way, I was getting weaker, despite training constantly.

In the November I went for tests to see what was going on before I went to see my consultant.

This is when I was told I have Motor Neurone Disease ( MND ), which my mum died of.  I had a year or two left ( hopefully more).

Fast forward 8 months and my mobility is rubbish- I can walk but I am very unsteady, so anything more than a few steps I need a wheelchair.  On top of that both my arms/shoulders are pretty much useless. Luckily my hands/fingers are ok for now. IM STILL FIGHTING!!!!!!

Unfortunately 7 months later and to date Ryan is now mainly bed bound, with the odd occasion in his wheelchair for a short amount of time due to being uncomfortable.  His voice is very quiet but is made harder to hear as he is on a NIV machine to aid his breathing 24/7.

Again we are doing this Trek to raise as much as we can to stop this from happening to anyone else in the future. we need to find a cure and we need to stop it.

Please give as much as you can, every little helps towards finding a cure and help in giving people that suffer with this disease equipment to help them day to day.
