Story

The Chili Cook Off has gone virtual this year but that doesn't mean it can't help as many lives as previous years. But I need your help to make that happen. This year I raising funds in honor of Luka, my wonder dog.

Almost 14 years ago today my wife and I went to an adoption event at a pet store in Athens, GA. My only intention was looking at cute puppies. I never thought I would be coming home with a little 8lbs puppy that was ALL legs. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

I didn't know she would grow to be over 80lbs (the rescue told me 35lbs). I didn't know she would love food so much that she would pull a few Houdini's for a snack that I still haven't figured today. And I didn't know she would become a part of my heart and a part of every major life event. Luka inspired me to get into animal welfare. Luka's paw prints were there for my wedding. She was there when both my girls were born. And she was there to give me comfort, peace, perspective, and self-reflection. And now that she's an old lady I will be here for her. I'll lift her up when her legs just won't cooperate. I'll lay on the floor and pet her when getting up on the couch is just too hard. And I'll make sure she has comfort, peace, and that she feels loved.

The amazing bond that I have with Luka is something that Charleston Animal Society helps do for thousands of people every year (more than 5,000 last year). Not to mention the nearly 100,000 animals they help in the past decade. But for many animals, before they can be adopted or return home, they need help. Many of animals that end up at Charleston Animal Society's door are injured and need help. That's where Toby's Fund comes in. Toby's Fund is the fund used to treat every single injured animal that comes to Charleston Animal Society. Every dollar donated to Toby's Fund goes to help an animals. It could be a broken bone, a cut, heartworm disease, an eye infection, or any other unfortunate thing that happens to animals. Charleston Animal Society can fix it......with your help!
