As many of you will already be aware this is very close to home for me and my family. This is our story...
Our dad was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s 4 years ago at the age of 49. Since then it has been a long, tough journey for us all. Everyday is a learning curve as to what we are doing right or not. He was a builder for more than 25 years, who didn’t even have to think twice about painting or constructing a loft extension. Someone who now finds it frustrating when unable to hammer a nail. Alzheimer’s has changed his life forever.
Our family are faced with new challenges everyday as a result. Often we feel like we are constantly on the go, feel restless and at times totally drained. Sometimes we lose hope but then remember this wasn’t his choice - we hope to see light at the end of the tunnel. He is our dad and he is a husband. We are all one and have to find the strength to pull through. Our dad is so loving who has a heart of gold. If you have had the pleasure of meeting him, you will know he just wants to bring joy to everyone around him.
This is for all the people fighting Alzheimer’s everyday and to the fantastic wives, husbands, children, relatives & carers! It is not easy to say the least but you are doing an amazing job!
I can’t even put into words the strength our mum has and how incredible she is!
We will be taking part in the Kew Gardens 10k run on 15th September 2018 (both myself Henal and Hennel couldn’t even run to the end of the road!!!). There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, numbers set to rise to over 1 million by 2025. This will soar to 2 million by 2050. In the UK, dementia is the only condition in the top 10 causes of death without a treatment to prevent, cure or slow its progression.
Please donate however little or more for this fantastic cause. Once you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the Alzheimer's Society.
Thank you and lots of love
