Story
When a child suddenly becomes ill, there’s no time to plan. The Sick Children’s Trust is the charity that gives families one less thing to worry about by giving them a place to stay, and someone to talk to, free of charge just minutes from their child’s bedside.
Their ten ‘Homes from Home’ support families from around the UK each year with warm and comfortable accommodation and a friendly ear to listen.
Scott House supports families of sick children being treated at Freeman Hospital by giving them somewhere to stay just minutes from their seriously ill child’s hospital bedside.
So when we arrived in Newcastle with Charlie we were lucky enough to be offered a room at Scott House, and stayed there for 5 months. This enabled us to be at Charlie’s bedside during the agonising wait for a donor heart to be found. When our twins Lizzy and Rosie were born this was their first "home" and following Charlie's heart transplant was the place we slept under the same roof for the first time as a family of 5. Scott House - the place and the people hold many special memories for us all. They looked after us and made sure that our children could always be our priority.
