We are a team of seven 10 and 11 year-olds who want to help make a difference to children struggling in our community as a result of their lives being turned upside down by Coronavirus. 

We have heard of the challenges local children and families are facing as a result of the lockdown and not being able to go to school. 

Many families are struggling to buy food and although Free School Meal vouchers are supposed to be available, these are taking a long time to process and only cover a small amount towards children’s lunches. Some of our local schools have nearly 50% of their pupils receiving free school lunches so this affects a large number of families. Some schools have set up food banks to help these families – often funded from the pockets of the school staff.

Many families are also struggling to support the continued education of their children as online access is often limited by the broadband available and the number of devices in the home.

We want to raise money to help those in our local community who are experiencing food insecurity. We also want to help where we can with the digital divide, to ensure that the children who can’t currently access their lessons can continue with their education.

We have committed to run a total of 289 km, as a team over 28 days. The distance of 289 km represents a ‘virtual’ route covering all 40 Acute Care London hospitals from Hillingdon Hospital to Royal Marsden Hospital.  

Each of us has committed to run 1.5km (separately) every day for 28 consecutive days, a combined daily distance of 10.5 km. We started running on 11^th May and are due to finish on 7^th June.

We are pupils at Kensington Prep School in Fulham and we’re raising money with our school registered fundraising charity and all monies raised will be distributed directly to families in need and their schools, liaising with the local school network of Head Teachers
