Story
One of us will be 6 weeks post op. One of us has had two knee repair operations. One of us is asthmatic. One has a blood sugar problem. With three boys we have had many trips to A&E - our access to healthcare is easy and we're always patched up and looked after. We'll be walking 20km for Doctors for Nepal where access to healthcare is a very different story with 1 doctor per 100,000 people and sometimes days of walking treacherous terrain to reach them.
My mate Kate founded the charity Doctors for Nepal over eight years ago. They've managed to fund three doctors to completion of the training and have another six part way through. They are now branching out to nursing and midwifery scholarships. Once the funded students finish their medical degrees they work within the remote regions of Nepal supporting many communities. For more on the valuable work they do head here: http://www.doctorsfornepal.org/
But there's more to be done, more funding to be raised and Doctors / Nurses education to support.
