Story
Following on from the success of our Marathon walk in October 2021, we were able to sponsor 11 young individuals from school to go on a life changing voyage with Tall Ships Youth Trust. Tall Ships are a charity who run residential voyages at sea, which take young people out of their day-to-day environment and, instead, provide an adrenaline-charged catalyst for development. Their adventures aim to improve mental health, teach life skills and support participants in fulfilling their potential.
For this year's main charity event we will be undertaking the Surrey Three Peaks Challenge, a 22-mile round trip route. Our adventure will take us across a river via stepping stones and up three of Surrey's most famous hills - Box Hill, Holmbury Hill and Leith Hill, a total ascent of 1060 metres.
We will again be raising funds for our charity partner - Tall Ships Youth Trust to enable us to support and sponsor another voyage. After meeting the previous group on their return to Gunwharf we were particularly touched by the stories they shared with us and how the voyage has impacted their lives. Many used words such as; incredible, amazing, challenging, life-changing, eye-opening and that they learned key skills such as listening, leadership skills, team work and the importance of trust and integrity.
Tall Ships Youth Trust, is not a sailing charity, it is a youth development trust, which has simply discovered that taking young people away from 4G and into the sea is the best way to make a positive difference…
