Pooleys Dawn to Dusk · 19 May 2020

NHS Charities Together and its members across the UK are hugely grateful for the support received from so many since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Story

NHS staff and volunteers are doing amazing work right now in caring for COVID-19 patients. Together, let's show our respect and gratitude as they work tirelessly in the face of the virus. It's our turn to make sure we look after them, to ensure they can keep doing their vital work.

The Objective of the annual Pooley's Dawn to Dusk competition is to encourage the most interesting employment of a Flying Machine within the limits of competent airmanship and to demonstrate the capabilities of pilot and machine in a day's flying, in the hours between Dawn and Dusk, whilst undertaking an original and praiseworthy objective.

Lee and Chris got their heads together and thought that doing something in honour of the late great Sir Stirling Moss would be fitting given the sporting challenge aspect to the Dawn to Dusk event and that a great way to honour him with a serious challenge and at the same time raise money for NHS Charities Together would be to overfly famous racetracks in England and Wales, taking aerial shots as we go and doing it all in a day!

The route takes in 844 nautical miles and 8 1/2 hrs of flying over 15 famous racetracks with 3 stops in between. We'll be starting at Snetterton and then continuing to take in sights such as Brands Hatch, Brooklands and then on to Goodwood for a very fitting first pitstop. From there we'll head North West to Thruxton then on to Castle Combe before heading into Wales to overfly Pembrey and then heading North to take in Anglesey and making our second stop at an airfield in the area (TBC).

After a short break in North Wales we'll be heading over to Aintree where Sir Stirling won his first British GP in 1955 driving a Mercedes, then on to Oulton Park before heading over to the East of the country to visit Croft where we'll make our 3rd stop. For the final leg we'll be heading South to first of all visit Cadwell Park in Lincolshire before moving on to Donington, Mallory Park and then to our final circuit, the iconic Silverstone, where we'll complete a lap of honour before heading back to base at Peterborough Sibson Airfield, home of Peterborough Flying School.

As a bonus, we're hoping that the photographs we take will be good enough to be framed and auctioned as a collectors set after the event.

We hope you agree that this is a fitting challenge not only to honour Sir Stirling but also to honour the huge challenge that our hero NHS staff and volunteers have more than risen to, stepping up to help the country in its hour of need.

Please join us in giving something back to those who have laid their lives on the line for us.
