Story

Our Purpose

On May 17 -26, 2019, a Team of 20 Canadians will be headed to Malawi to volunteer in a local community and run a marathon.

The trip is facilitated by the Impact Marathon Series (IMS), a social organization designed to harness the power of the running marathons to link with sustainably building communities.

The Impact

Impact Marathon Series is set up specifically to tackle the 17 Global Goals set by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015

  • The Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice
  • Each race takes on the 3 of the Global Goals that are most pertinent in the community where the marathon takes place.
  • Since 2016, IMS has raised over $1 million for grassrooots organisations !

Where your Donations will go in Malawi:

Our partner in the small fishing village of Nkope, on the banks of Lake Malawi is an intimate and humble organisation that has steadily built a wonderful relationship and reputation in the community. The villagers have only ever asked for one thing: To Learn. In this way the Naturally Africa Foundation projects are all based around capacity building and teaching. The agricultural land is a testing ground for crops and farming techniques that can stand up to the rigours of Climate Change. With this information and training, we can effectively support all the families in the region diversify their subsistence farms to improve the consistency of yields and the variety of the diets to combat the chronic malnutrition.

We will be using the $20,000 to build a sustainable fish farm that irrigates the agricultural land where we will be testing new techniques and crops that are resilient to Climate Change and will lead to a more diversified diet for the families of Nkope...
