Story

Meet Lucy.

Lucy is our very good friend. She lives in Bristol, on July 1st 2015, her world was turned upside down. She fell and hit her head, suffering a severe head injury that caused a state of unawareness for several days.

Two years on, and Lucy is back to her bubbly, enthusiastic and endlessly positive self. But the trauma caused a condition called Aphasia; a communication disorder that makes it difficult to read, write or speak.

Lucy had to do endless exercises to train her brain to find the right words, or re-learn how to remember things, or even tell a story. She's worked so hard, and if you were to meet her today, you'd never know that she is living with a brain disorder. But it's only because of support systems like Say Aphasia that she was able to bounce back.

Say Aphasia is based in Brighton, and is a grassroots charity trying to help people like Lucy re-find confidence after a stroke or head injury. They are pretty new, so we're proud to fundraise for them to help them support as many as people as possible living with Aphasia through their weekly drop-in centre.

Lucy inspired us to join her for this walk. The scenery will provide a welcome distraction from the blisters and tired legs! And of course, we're relying on Lucy's sunshine personality to carry us to the finish line.

Whatever you can give will be a huge help. Thank you for your support

About the campaign

Improving the awareness of Aphasia - Raising money for SAY APHASIA Charity. We support people with aphasia to enable them to re-connect with life. 350,000 people in UK have aphasia!

About the charity

Aphasia is always due to injury to the brain, and most commonly from a stroke. The difficulties of people with aphasia can range from occasional trouble finding words to losing the ability to speak, read, or write. Aphasia affects a person's language, but it doesn't affect a person's intelligence.
