Fire Fighters Charity provides care and support to the UK’s fire family. It helps with any health and wellbeing challenges firefighters, control staff, and everyone working in – or retired from – the UK’s fire services, as well as their families, may face - during and after service

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving Page.

Team Dacy returns for its second year to the Ladies Driving Challenge on behalf of the UK Fire Fighters Charity, and this year, we have six lovely ladies participating. The participants in 2014 are Jennifer Butler, Natasha Giddens, Lisa Butler, Rebecca Hood, Emma Lewis and Aurelia Taledac.

The team was set up in memory of my grandfather, Michael Dacy, who was and is, my hero. He started as a volunteer firefighter with the Rancho Cordova Fire District in 1961, taken on as full time in 1963. By 1968, Mike was promoted to Fire Marshal and in 1979, became the Deputy Fire Chief. Mike was a man well known for being a hard worker and was the ideal candidate for Active Fire Chief in 1985 when the existing chief went on sick leave. When the chief retired in 1987, my grandfather was promoted to Fire Chief of Rancho Cordova.

In July 1989, Rancho Cordova went through a consolidation process and became the Sacramento County Fire Protection District. In October of 1989, Mike took the reigns as Fire Chief for this entire district - responsible for 318 employees over 127 square miles with a population of over 275,000.

Team Dacy is pleased to announce another member with fire fighter connotations - our Natasha Giddens is proudly attending as the grandaughter of retired fire fighter Peter Harrod, who served for as a part time fire-fighter for 25 years at Station 24 Eastwood (Nottingham) from 1962-1987. There are pictures enclosed of Peter. Additionally Natasha's Uncle Kenneth Harrod served as a fire-fighter for several years and family clearly understands the demands of public service.

Firefighters such as these are pillars of the community and heroes to many, including me. My own grandfather is no longer on this earth but will remain my hero for the rest of my life and lives through his teachings and his family. Team Dacy is very proud to be supporting such a worthy charity representing a cause near and dear to us.

Fire Fighter's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God

wherever flames may rage,

give me strength to save a life,

whatever be its age.

Help me embrase a little child

before it is too late,

or save an older person from

the horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert,

and hear the weakest shout,

quickly and efficiently

to put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling,

to give the best in me,

to guard my friend and neighbour,

and protect his property.

And if according to Your will

I must answer death's call,

bless with Your protecting hand,

my family one and all.

Amen
