Story

Three members of Darlington Labour Party are taking part in the 2021 Darlington 10k race to raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity after being inspired by their friend, and Darlington councillor, Hilary Lucas.

Andrew, James and Ewan have been inspired to raise funds for the charity after the Labour Councillor for Red Hall and Lingfield, who is undergoing treatment following breast cancer, raised over £1,700 shaving her head.

It’s 11 years since Hilary had a brain tumour removed and now Hilary is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, with her final round of chemotherapy about to take place.

The team will take part in the SG Petch Darlington 10K 2021on Sunday 1st August starting at 10:30am.

James said: “Hilary is a great friend, she’s always there when you need her and she does great work for the residents of Red Hall and Lingfied. Hilary has been an inspiration all the way through he latest treatment, we just want to do our bit to help out.”

“I only started running regularly during lockdown, completing Couch to 5k in January. This will be my first event and I’m really looking forward to running with other people for the first time.”

Andrew said: “For us this event isn’t about how quickly we finish, it’s about how much we raise for charity. I know the last year has been a struggle for a lot of people but any donation, big or small, is appreciated.”

Ewan said: “The Labour Party is like a big family, we occasionally have disagreements, but we come together when we need to. I’m proud to be doing my bit for Hilary and her chosen charity.”
