On 26th May TeamDARO (Simon Lerwill, Freya Cox, Jo Lafferty, Jodie Bird and Melissa Bufton) will be running in the Great Birmingham 10k as part of #TeamUoB!
We’re taking on this challenge to encourage UoB staff and friends to support us in fundraising for the incredible research into vital new cancer treatments at the University of Birmingham.
With your help we will make a meaningful, lasting difference by supporting this vital research in to Blood, Brain and Bowel cancer helping patients across the country for years to come.
1 in 2 people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
The University of Birmingham is discovering new
ways to prevent and treat cancer, including blood, brain and
bowel cancer.
Many cancers are not diagnosed until a late stage. Many symptoms of these three cancers are similar to those of less serious conditions, so they are hard to spot.
Once we have diagnosed them, finding the right treatment for an individuals cancer is also difficult. A life-saver for one patient could be useless for another.
Just £100 could pay to grow a mini-tumour of an individuals cancer, ready to test possible cures on.
£250 could pay for the testing that identifies the right treatment for the individual patient.
If #TeamUoB raised £20,000, this could buy a machine to identify more genes that cause cancer.
