Ripple Effect is creating a wave of change in rural Africa. Our farmers learn, grow and sell more, releasing the potential in their land and lives. Then they pass the knowledge on, creating a wave of change across rural Africa.

Story

BORE DA!

The Harrison family are off on another adventure together. It's about time!**

Bob, Lins, Beth and Kate are planning to risk their family bond by cramming into a 1000cc left-hand drive vehicle - most probably an ice-cream van ("Oh, we do like to be beside the sea side") - and heading off from the UK, across the Sahara, to Cameroon as part of The Adventurist's AFRICAN RALLY - http://africarally.theadventurists.com/index.php?page=overview.

We are "turning south and heading into the fray in search of the sort of moments to tell our grandchildren about over and over again until they fear coming to visit us in our old people's home".

"They said the cars would never make it, they said the roads in monsoon season were impassable, they said this was the most ridiculous and stupid idea they'd ever heard of" - perfect, therefore, for the Harrisons and the other mighty fools.

Why, we hear you scream, are you doing such a crazy thing??

The Adventurists Africa Rally is like a solid oak table - it is made up of four proud legs:

1. Charity - raising huge sums of cash for awesome projects

This year, the three main charities are as below, but if we raise more than the requisite £1000, we'll be adding to the list from our own choices.

Ape Action Africa (formerly CWAF)
Send a Cow - http://www.sendacow.org.uk/
The Rainforest Foundation UK - http://www.rainforestfoundationuk.org/

2. Vehicles - 1-litre, Left Hand drive and completely unsuitable
We could go for a Vauxhaul Nova, a Suzuki SJ or Fiat Panda but what we really want to do is do it in an Ice-cream van. It would be nothing short of a juxtaposition and something different. Decorated most probably as a dragon, Team Dragon Drive would be going for comedy value over comfort. Even more reason to sponsor us!

3. The route - there isn't one - we choose our own way (thus any advice on land-mined/pirated/lion-prowling/definitely-dont-go-there places will be much appreciated) adding to the possibility of at least one family member being thrown 'overboard'. At the moment, we are planning to go South through Europe (that would help right?), across to Morocco, through Algeria, Niger, Mali (for the sole purpose of going to Timbukto - yes it is a real place!) and then Nigeria to Cameroon.

4. On our own - there's absolutely no back up, it interferes with our adventure like a nasty rash so there is none. Fab-lass!!

To support our crazy adventure and provide us with some, relatively, sane reason for doing it, please sponsor us either in one lump sum or per mile (ha! there are 4500 of those) or per family member that makes it to the finish line unscathed by rebel siblings... the choice is yours.

Diolch yn fawr!!!

**Despite the 1st April 2010 fundraising deadline, this is NOT an April Fools trick. I repeat, we are reeeeally doing this!!
