Story
Eddy’s Story
Eddy was pestered by his friend to go and have a
PSA check as this is such a common thing for men over 50 to miss and
push to the side. After noticing himself waking up in the middle of the
night to go to the toilet each night he decided to go to his GP and
request the test his friend had urged him to do and there he was
referred to the hospital.
He first had what seemed at the time a routine MRI, and when that later showed a problem underwent a Truss biopsy. In May 2018 whilst on holiday he received a call, when he returned he met with a team of oncologist who broke the news that he had stage 2/3 prostate cancer, with a Gleason score of 6. Whilst trying to get his head around the prospect of having the dreaded C he was given some choices on how to beat this.
These treatments included a permanent seed brachytherapy, radiotherapy and also active surveillance. With a positive and determined attitude from the get-go he made the
decision, with his family’s support, to have a robotic assisted
laproscopic radical prostatectomy (operation).
On 22nd September this was performed at Broomfield hospital by Mr Casey Rowlands team. The aftermath wasn’t pleasant but Eddy being the man he is wasn’t going to let that overcome him. The day after his operation he refused to be pushed out of the hospital in a wheel chair and walked out with his head high and days after his op he was already picking up emails and partially back to work. He now is regularly being monitored and is making fabulous progress.
Eddy is our hero, our rock, and a devoted family man and is so loved by each one of his friends and family.

To help others reach a more positive outcome that you hear less and less of. TEAM EDDY is made up of all different ability’s some much fitter than others but our eddy’s story will give us just a little bit of the strength he had throughout that time in his life.
