Story
My daughter Isobel became ill 3 years ago, aged 11, with an undiagnosed neurological condition which affected her balance and vision. This year, after many tests at Gt Ormond St Hospital she was diagnosed with a rare life threatening illness called HLH (familial haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis). This is a very rare genetic immunodeficiency illness caused by inheriting a faulty gene code, the Griscelli gene, from both of her parents. Isobel has an even rarer form of this called 'isolated neurological HLH'. Currently the only hope of a cure is through chemo and a bone marrow transplant and her symptoms are managed through daily steroid treatment.
Team Isobel are running the Robin Hood Half to raise much needed funds for Histio UK who are involved in researching a cure and raising awareness of the illness. Anyone who knows me knows I am not a natural runner, but if my girl can cope with lumbar punctures, countless blood tests, MRIs and numerous adults scrutinising her then I can cope with 13.1 miles of running and a few hills. I hope! Team Isobel are a group of amazing friends and runners who are giving up their precious time to selflessly support our family and Histio UK by pounding the streets of Nottingham. Their support is invaluable and so is yours, so please donate towards finding my girl and others like her a cure. Thank you; it means everything.
