We are group of friends who have got together to raise money for Feet First Worldwide.
Feet First Worldwide is a charity founded by Steve Mannion in 2003. Steve is a Blackpool based Orthopaedic Surgeon who gives his time and expertise to treat physical disabilities and teach orthopaedic procedures to medics in disadvantaged countries. One of his overall aims being worldwide recognition and management of club foot, a condition which can be treated easily and at a low cost in infancy. To see the amazing work that Steve and his team do visit www.feetfirstworldwide.com. Steve works with organisations throughout the world including CCBRT(www.ccbrt.or.tz) a Tanzanian non-government organisation established in 1994 in response to the need of people with disabilities in and around Dar es Salaam.
Following a visit to the CCBRT centre in Moshi in Jan 2014, I felt motivated to raise money for this worthy cause which offers life changing treatments to people who would otherwise be left disabled. During the visit I was able to interact with patients and voluntary workers and even watched Steve at work. I met twin boys who were post treatment and running about in the courtyard. Without the treatment they would not have been able to stand up. It was wonderful to see the results of his work.
It wasn't difficult recruiting people to join me on the tour to raise money for this most worthwhile charity. First to sign up were my close friends Bob & Caroline Gallagher and we are now a team of nine.
None of us are experienced cyclists. We have all signed up for the challenge, bought bikes, then started to worry about getting fit enough to cycle between 50 & 80 miles per day, for four consecutive days.
Each cyclist has fully funded their own tour and 100% of the funds raised will be donated to charity. So dig deep and donate now to help to improve the lives of disabled people in disadvantaged countries.
