We are a group of eight friends taking a once in a lifetime trip to Peru where we will hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu followed by a stay in the Amazon Jungle.  We are funding the trip entirely by ourselves but want to utilise the experience to raise funds for Dr.  Kershaws Hospice by asking for your kind donations of sponsorship for the trek.

Dr Kershaw’s is a local hospice providing a range of services tailored to those within the community living with life limiting illness along with their families. 

The Hospice has provided invaluable end of life care for some of our close family and friends. Mandy Wood (nee Royds), sister to Justin who is completing the trek, spent her final days in the dedicated care of the Hospice.  They also cared for Michelle Bamford and Greg Hardwick in their final days, both friends to Claire & Pam. The dedicated support given to all was invaluable. The Hospice also support the Life for a Life project with a memorial garden and book of remembrance within its grounds and chapel.

In 2019 the Hospice will celebrate its 30th anniversary and is rebuilding its 12-bed in-patient unit enhancing privacy and improving patient experience.  The build will cost £2.1million and take 10 months to complete and will see the creation of modern en-suite rooms all with garden views. The new ward layout incorporates 8 single en-suite rooms and a pair of two-bed rooms plus a family rest rooms and a new central nursing station to optimise patient observation. 

The Hospice has set aside £1million towards the rebuild cost and will be launching a capital appeal which we are choosing to support with our adventure
