Mt Kilimanjaro Summit Trek for New Hope Worcester · 23 July 2016

New Hope supports and enables children who have disabilities to access community leisure activities in school holidays and at week ends. Children are aged between 6 and 19 years old.

Story

Lauran, Ben, Joe B, Zach and Joe M  have come together and created 'Team New Hope' in an attempt to summit the worlds largest free standing mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro, to help Worcestershire Charity New Hope.

Team Leader Lauran, began working as a support worker at New Hope back in March of 2013. Two years later the Charity is something that Lauran holds very close to her heart. The fantastic work they do and the goals that they want to achieve are what  inspired her to put 'Team New Hope' together and organise the Kilimanjaro Charity summit trek.

New Hope was founded in July 2010 by Jean Wilson, a Mother to a daughter with severe learning disabilities.

Jean was unable to find suitable daytime respite care that was open both on Saturdays and throughout every school holiday. She soon became aware that this must be a problem for other parents and carers in Worcestershire , so she sought out the opinion of other parents, carers and professionals and as suspected, there was a need for such a project. From this New Hope was born.

New Hope now supports over 100 families who have children aged between the ages 6 and 19 that have learning difficulties and disabilities, providing much needed respite care every Saturday, bank holiday and school Holiday. The children that attend New Hope are welcomed into a warm and nurturing environment where every child's individual and often complicated needs are catered for.

New Hope firmly believe that all children with special needs deserve to have the same opportunities as their non disabled peers and this is why, whilst providing respite care, New Hope ensure that the children are able to access fantastic leisure opportunities that they may not otherwise be able  to participate in. These range from trips to local activity centers, Exciting  adventures to Lego Land and the Harry Potter experience, horse riding, swimming, bowling and many more.

As a team we are aiming to raise a total of around £6,000 a very ambitious target, but one that we think with lots of hard work, we can achieve! Anything that you can donate will be most appreciated and every single penny will be going to New Hope! Keep an eye on our page for updates about our exciting adventure!

Thank you for supporting us and New Hope,
