Team North West Distance and Elevation Event · 3 June 2020

Mental Health UK is here for anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We are made up of four organisations based in each of the four nations of the UK, working together to improve mental health.

Story

Who are we:

We are a team of 9 working for the Ethicon franchise, part of the Johnson and Johnson family of companies.

We work in hospitals across the North West supporting surgeons and theater staff during surgical procedures.

The Coronavirus outbreak has affected people from all parts of the UK and the support that Mental Health UK provides to people cannot be provided without the support of others.

The Challenge:

We wanted to challenge ourselves individually and as a team so we needed something we could all contribute to. We wanted to do something that got us asking for each other’s help and working towards the same goal!

The 24 hour Land’s End to John o’ Groats team challenge was born.  We wanted to represent the spread of the Coronavirus through mileage, but then we also wanted to represent the uphill struggle of mental health so we added in an elevation factor to challenge ourselves even further!!

The statistics:

Elevation:

40,209 ft. That’s Everest and the 3 largest peaks in the UK combined.

Mileage:

874 miles. John o Groats to Lands end (Distance of the UK from top to bottom)

Time:

24 hours!!

Through a mixture of cycling (outdoors and in garages) and running this is our goal for us as a team to complete.  We are all at different fitness levels and we will all be challenging ourselves, doing as much as we can to hit our collective total in just 24 hours!!!

Our little challenge to you is help if you can by making a small donation that will make a big difference to the person who gets the help from Mental Health UK when they really need it!

A little bit more about Mental Health UK:

Mental Health UK supports people affected by mental health problems including friends, family and carers. Working across the UK, they bring together over 40 years of expertise from four national founding charity partners to improve understanding and provide vital care. They provide services such as local support groups, advice and information such as their ‘On The inside’ guides that have helped over 5 million people. No one knows when they, or their loved ones, might need support and we want to help keep this support available.

This is where you and us come in. We need your support to help us make a difference to this charity which has seen its services increase over recent months.

£5 could help us to update their COVID-19 information hub with essential information to help people who may be feeling anxious or isolated to manage their mental health.

£10 could pay for a call to their advice and information line, supporting someone living with mental illness who may be feeling in distress during this time.

£20 could enable someone who is struggling with their mental health to access their online support community, Clinic, where they can connect to others in a safe environment.

£30 could allow Mental Health UK promote an online support group on social media, connecting people who are feeling isolated and may be experiencing mental health problems for the first time.

£50 could contribute towards helping someone living with money and mental health problems with personalized advice and support through our Mental Health and Money Advice Service.

Big love to you all and think of us on June 3rd when we start at 6am!
