Story

UPDATE: We just can't believe the generosity we have seen - in less than 12 hours our original target has been exceeded beyond belief! We've therefore decided to increase our target to £5,000 as that would mean that we can sponsor a room at the Ronald McDonald Evelina House in Oscar's name. We can't thank everyone enough for this incredible show of kindness!

On April the 21st our incredible friend Lauren gave birth to her and Ellis’ beautiful baby boy, Oscar. He was six weeks early and had been diagnosed with a rare heart condition and Oesophageal atresia during their pregnancy, which they soon realised meant specialist care in a hospital away from home. Other than a few trips to Great Ormond Street, Oscar has spent his entire life in St Thomas’ hospital after being transferred a few days after birth. The family have been through a rollercoaster of events and emotions the past ten months but after multiple procedures and lots of ups and downs, Oscar has been a little hero and with continued support he is well on the road to recovery and should be coming home soon.

Having been in hospital for all ten months of his life, Ronald McDonald House Charity provided Lauren and Ellis with a safe space close to their little boy whilst he received the care that he so desperately needed. The pandemic has also meant that no one has met Oscar or been able to visit and support Lauren and Ellis, so the Evelina house has been more than just a home to them.

“Being at the Ronald McDonald Evelina house has made facing this prospect so much more bearable. Moving away from our home and family to be close to Oscar was incredibly daunting, but the staff at the House really have become like an adopted family who have taken incredible care of us.” Lauren

Seeing what Lauren and Ellis were going through and being unable to help in any way due to the pandemic, we felt more helpless than ever. As their friends we would like to raise awareness of the charity that have and are still providing Lauren and Ellis with this immeasurable support, whilst making sure that other families who have to go through what they have, are given a home close to their children too. To do this we will be walking 180k in a day between us and sky diving from 10,000ft to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charity. Just £25 can help support a family for one night, so fundraisers like these can make a real impact on the lives of families with children in hospital, just like Lauren and Ellis.

Thank you RMCH for everything you have done for our friends and their little boy and please keep supporting families like Lauren & Ellis'. We love you Lauren & Ellis, this is for your little hero, Oscar!
