Just over 3 years ago Richard's wife Julie came into the club to enquire on behalf of Richard, her biggest fear lies with Richards illness. But this is where the journey and friendship began between the Team & Richard’s family.

Richard has been a member at our Reynolds club for 3 years, training twice a week with myself. Richard is an ex serviceman in the Royal Navy having served for 12 years, then going on to work for the Royal Mail for 35 years. Unfortunately Richard had to retire due to illness. Richard has glaucoma which is a disease that affects vision, with this Richard has lost the majority of his sight leaving him with little, to no vision. Despite this, that has never stopped him.

Since joining our club, Richard has been nothing but an inspiration to me personally as well as my whole team here at Rainham. In the last 3 years we have seen Richard go from strength to strength both mentally & physically. The self motivation and belief this man has inspires us all, we will always do whatever we can to support this inspiration of a man. Richard absolutely loves coming here, he finds his strength and puts it into his workouts where he finds himself working on building up his confidence. No matter what hurdle we face, Richard takes on each challenge like a pro.

This brings us on to the topic of our epic 5k inflatable charity course at Brands Hatch that Richard, myself and my team are going to take part in, with the help of our amazing members and their family and friends.That in itself for Richard is going to be another achievement completed. We are underway with our training and preparation for this and will continue to update you all!

Richard is a role model to everyone. I would like to ask for your kind donations to help us raise as much money as possible to go towards the charity that supports Richard - Blind Veterans UK. They do more than you could imagine to keep Richard’s sprits up, plan trips for him to go across the country, they often take him up to wales where he goes fishing, one of his favourite hobbies!
