Story
On 27 September 2015, Team Rowlands will be climbing the O2 - that's
right, the Millennium Dome thing - to raise money for Ronald McDonald
house in Camberwell.
We want to raise at least £1000 in memory of Alice Mary Rowlands, who was born with a rare neonatal liver disease and died at just 15 days old.
During Alice's short life, Ronald McDonald House Charities supported our family by letting us stay in their Camberwell house, just minutes away from King's College Hospital where Alice was being treated.
Ronald McDonald House Charities provide free of charge, home away from home accommodation so families can be near to their children when they are in hospital a long way from home.
So here's what we're asking you to do. Will you pay to accommodate a family at Ronald McDonald House, Camberwell?
Could you pay for two families? Could you maybe stretch to accommodating a family for a whole week? The Camberwell house has 24 rooms. How many of them can we pay for between us, and for how long? Have a look at the following suggestions, and please give as much as you can:
- £5 will provide breakfast mornings for families rushed in for emergency surgery
- £10 will provide arts and crafts kits to entertain children
- £25 will accommodate a family for a night
- £50 will accommodate two families for a night
- £100 will accommodate four families for a night (you get the picture?)
- £175 will accommodate a family for a whole week
- £600 pays for every room to be occupied for a night
When Alice was transferred to King's College Hospital, over 120 miles from our home, we were suddenly faced with having to find somewhere to stay in London, on top of the trauma of learning that Alice was very seriously ill. Being able to stay at the Camberwell house took away that worry and enabled us to spend precious time with Alice while we could. Thanks to their support, our son Sam was able to see his baby sister every day and hold her for the first time. We are forever indebted to Ronald McDonald House Charities for those precious memories.
This year Alice would have been 8 years old on 25 September. By raising money to help Ronald McDonald House Camberwell continue providing support for families, we are also celebrating our daughter's life. It's a deeply personal cause and we thank you most sincerely for your support.
Thank you for helping us to give back to the charity that gave us so much. By rallying to the cause our friends and family have carried us through some very difficult years.
