Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

If you're familiar with our family then you've no doubt heard our story, but why not hear it again!

In 2013 Jim Rowntree was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, and while fantastic treatment from the NHS put him firmly into remission, the site of his tumours - his hip and lower back - meant that Jim was left almost bed-bound and fearing that he would never walk again.

Which is where the team from Marie Curie Newcastle stepped in.

Through their weekly day centre, Jim was able to not only meet others with similar experiences to his own - a vital support for someone recovering from cancer - and enjoy much needed distraction from his ordeal, but also to take part in regular physiotherapy sessions that helped him to get back on his feet over short distances.

And now here he is, preparing to undertake yet another Great North Run!!

Well, sort of...

While the team at Marie Curie supported Jim to regain some mobility, unfortunately it still wasn't enough for him to fulfil his lifelong goal of completing the Great North Run. Fortunately, that's where Jim's family stepped in!

In the years since, a combination of family members from the younger generation have pushed Jim in a wheelchair through no less than five Great North Runs, raising vital funds for Marie Curie every time as their way of saying thank you.

And this year Mark, Nina, Jamie and Ceryn are back to do it again, pushing Jim all 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields in honour of the charity that made it all possible. It's harder than it sounds (and since all four have run the course solo, that's something we can attest to!), but for an amazing cause, and we would be incredibly grateful for any support you can give!

We know that times are hard right now, but every single penny counts for Marie Curie and the brilliant work that they do, so Team Scrambled Legs is grateful for anything and everything you can afford to give.
