Three Peaks Challenge - Global Action Plan & Sky · 8 April 2009
Over the weekend of 9-10 May 2009, TEAM SKY WALKERS tackled the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in an incredible 23 hours and 29 minutes!!
.
Dramatic events unfolded from the outset when one of the team went to the aid of another mountaineer on Ben Nevis who eventually required the RAF Mountain Rescue team to helicopter her off the mountain. 120mph winds and deep snow meant that the challenge summit had to be lowered, but the team perservered and got to Scafell Pike for the four hour night climb. Euphoria kept the team awake for the final push on Snowdon, which again took four hours to complete before the welcome refreshments in Llanberis at the finish.
.
Team Sky Walkers are: Faye Hudson (team leader); David Ferguson; Alison Coleman; Jollyon Benn; Sharon Baines and Faye's RAF buddy and expert mountain guide, Flight Sergeant Tim Jackson.
.
Driving were: Anna-Marie Norman and Dave Brunton.
.
We did this in order to raise money for BSkyB's chosen charity partner, Global Action Plan to make a difference educating communities on what they can do about issues such as energy and waste.

Following a nationwide search, Sky chose Global Action Plan as its new charity partner early in 2008. The three-year partnership aims to raise over £2 million and to use Sky's resources and experience to help Global Action Plan reach out across the UK and Ireland, so that they can inspire Sky customers and staff, as well as the wider community, to make positive changes in their daily lives to address environmental issues.
Global Action Plan was chosen from a shortlist of five charities, following applications from over 170 organisations. The decision was made following consultation with Sky's staff and customers as well as a panel made up of members of the Executive Team and independent advisors.
