Story

9th of November 2019, was a day our family wouldn't forget.

It started as any other. Until we got a phone call from mum to say dad had been in an accident at work and he had been airlifted to Coventry hospital. He had been put into an induced coma at the scene.

This was pretty much the last day dad was alive...

Walking into A & E, he lay there with tubes coming out of him, on ventilation and with a superb black eye. Also remembering how warm he was. We were told he had a fractured skull and eye socket from where he was knocked out from the branch at work, but worse of all, a bleed on the stem of the brain.

We were eventually moved into ICU where the incredible nurses looked after him. Dad was fitted with a bolt in his head to measure the pressure due to the bleed.

He was doing well, even told us they were going to try and bring him round on the Monday (14th) but unfortunately, he took a turn for the worse, he didn't have a good night Sunday night, his blood pressure dropped and they had to double the medication to keep it at a good level and his oxygen levels had dropped that much he was on 100% support.

Tuesday 15th, was one of the longest days as we were told he may not make it through the night, so as a family, we stayed by his side throughout the night.

However, as much as dad fort, his body wasn't coping and eventually deteriorated, getting pneumonia, which led to sepsis, which in turn led to multi organ failure.

On 16th November 2019, we said goodbye to our dad...

Spud was a kind, abit of a joker and would always be willing to help anyone out. He loved to fish, he loved his garden and loved charity shops. He had retired, but still volunteered to work by helping maintaining the river banks ready for the fishing season.

Dad isn't here, but he hasn't gone. He's still in our thoughts, memories and the little quirks we do. he will always be on the lake fishing until his hearts content.

'Gone Fishing'

The Midlands Air Ambulance helped us that day by giving us that week we had with dad, before we said goodbye. We cannot thank you, and the staff ay Coventry hospital enough.

Please help support this worthy charity in any way possible, it all helps.

Thank you
