In 1996 Andrew Rothery was diagnosed with leukaemia, just 2 weeks before his 18 birthday. Andrew was in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant and the good news was that with Steven being his twin, there was a great chance of him being a perfect match.  Unfortunately, as tests were being run, it turned out that Steven had the same condition. The chances of this were nearly zero and in fact this was the first documented case of twins contracting the illness simultaneously.

After an unsuccessful transplant, Andrew lost his fight with the disease 2 years later, but Steven went on to recover and whilst not having perfect health, led a pretty normal life for the next 13 years.

Last year, Steven was told that the illness had returned. This time, Steven was not well enough to fight the disease and an infection soon turned into pneumonia. Steven passed away in late 2011.

From day one of the twins’ illness, the Rothery family have been involved with The Elimination of Leukaemia Fund (ELF), a charity run to fight this terrible disease.

As the twins elder brother, I was flattered when my colleagues approached me with the idea of raising money for the charity. The PepsiCo Wholesale Team look to take team building to the next level and feel it is important to give something back to the community.

This year we are looking at a number of initiatives and hope to raise £10,000. In the office we will be holing a raffle with a 43inch TV as the top prize, we'll be washing cars, we have a tuck shop, one of the team has even offered to do ironing to raise money.

In September we are hoping to row across Lake Windermere as a team and then in November do the Wolf Run. Keep looking at this site for updates

The Rothery family are thrilled that the PepsiCo Wholesale Team have chosen this charity again. It is a great cause and a charity close to our hearts.

Thank you so much for your support
