Why we are fundraising for Blind Veterans UK's Llandudno Centre

Blind Veterans UK offers rehabilitation, training and support to ex-service personnel, ensuring they are able to lead independent and fulfilling lives beyond sight loss.

The cycle challenge was the idea of Chris Derbyshire.

In the past Chris has attended many conferences and lectures where representatives of Blind Veterans UK have given presentations about the work of the organisation at centres such as the one in Llandudno, where Chris is originally from.

Inspired to hear that such an amazing facility had been established in his home town, Chris approached his work colleagues to see if they would be interested in taking part in the challenge.

Chris says "During our time in the forces, we have all witnessed first hand the devastating injuries sustained by service personnel while in active duty, including loss of sight.  It is affirming for those who have battled for their country to know organisations such as Blind Veterans UK are there to support us through life changing circumstances - whether we loose our sight in active duty or later life".

The Cycle

The team will complete the charity cycle over a three day period.

Day 1:  RAF St Athan near Llantwit Major to Sennybridge on the north border of the Brecon Beacons.

Day 2:  Sennybridge to Machynlleth via Aberystwyth.

Day 3:  Aberystwyth to the Cenotaph on Llandudno Pier negotiating the Snowdonia Mountain Range en-route, before heading up to the Blind Veterans UK Llandudno Centre to meet some of the veterans.
