The Objects of CIVA are “to advance any purpose which is recognised as being exclusively charitable under the laws of every part of the United Kingdom”. CIVA specialises in taking good ideas and turning them into successful and sustainable programmes. The main thrust of our work at the present time is in the following areas: • The promotion of social entrepreneurship and support of social entrepreneurs. • Encouraging the participation of young people in issues that affect them as young people and in wider society. • Enabling poor communities to address issues and problems in their lives. • Addressing the needs of families and their health and wellbeing, especially young families and early years children, • Addressing the issues of environmental sustainability and climate change. • The advancement of mathematics. • Experimenting with and investigating new forms of sustainable finance in support of these objectives.

Story

East London’s Tech City is the largest hub for technology in Europe, but the tech sector is short of the talent it requires. At the same time, London’s communities surrounding Tech City are amongst the poorest in the country.

The Tech City Fellowship will fund young people from London’s poorer communities through a coding boot camp - the fastest, most direct route into work in Tech City. Within 6 months, young people going through the scheme can be earning a starting salary of £32k.

This is how the course works.

We are looking for investors to finance the loan scheme, and for donors to help support the running of the Fellowship.

Please give what you can here, or contact us to discuss your donation. You can find out more about the fellowship here.

Simon's place was funded by donations from Kommol, Foundation Talent, Stott & May, Google, AAG and ProFinda. Join these and help to make the next Fellowship place possible!

The Fellowship Fund is managed by CIVA and loans will be managed by www.StudentFunder.com

Once they have been in a job for 6 months, Fellows will start paying back their loan. So the fund recycles and continues to help other young people over time.

We are aiming to raise an initial £25,000, which will enable us to fund 3 more Fellows to begin with.

A donation of £8k will finance one Fellow through the course. A donation of £2.5k and above will help pay part of a Fellow's fee. Donations of any size are welcome.

Investors contributing to the Fund will be given Gold Status on the Fellowship website. Donors giving £8k and above will be given Silver Status. Donors giving £2.5k and above will be given Bronze Status. All other donors will be name checked on the site.

The Tech City Fellowship is collaboration between Makers Academy, wearedotdotdot, Student Funder and ProFinda to give more young Londoners access to training and jobs in Tech City.
