Story
Hi,
Thanks for visiting my page...
As some of you may know I was diagnosed, and underwent treatment, for Hodgkins Lymphoma (stage 2A), back in 2013.
This involved 12 rounds of chemotherapy, and luckily for me the outcome was positive, with my being given the all clear at the end of the treatment cycle in early 2014.
It was a very tough time for myself and my family, but through the loving support of my family, friends and the truly wonderful IT/Tech community, which I'm part of, this "life adventure" was made easier to undertake.
During this time both the Lymphoma Association and the MacMillan Cancer Support charities were fantastic, and provided much support and encouragement.
I saw the MacMillan "Game Changers" charity event advertised (http://gamechangers.macmillan.org.uk) and wanted to take part in it so as to have the opportunity to, in some small way, repay their support and kindness.
I had always planned to take part in sponsored charity events for the reason I mentioned above, though my fitness and energy levels still aren't of a good enough level for any extended physical activities, such as cycle rides, runs, etc. Even 18 months after finishing my final treatment I still suffer from fatigue (due to the harsh, though luckily effective, treatment for the Hodgkins Lymphoma).
Playing video games for a 24 hour marathon will no doubt be mentally tiring though won't be physically strenuous. I feel this is a small step in the right direction to achieving my goal of partaking in charity events, and makes me happy knowing that I have the opportunity to help support MacMillan Cancer Support.
I will be streaming my gaming marathon, with web cam and a chat window, for the full 24 hours via my Twitch channel which you can find here: http://www.twitch.tv/techhead
So please come and join me on the day, either to play an online multiplayer game, spectate or to just chat. It'd be great to see you there!
If you are in a position to, and would like to make a donation, however small, to the MacMillan Cancer Support charity via my Just Giving page here, then that would also be much appreciated.
I hope to see you on my Twitch page for the gaming marathon and thanks again for your support.
Simon :)
