Fundraising for Nordoff Robbins (UK)

Story

We are ted; creative, passionate, straightforward, entertainers and music makers and supporters of the amazing charity, Nordoff Robbins.

Music is our passion, it’s in our DNA and we work hard to create entertainment experiences centred around music – whether a world class production show or a dynamic sports and wellbeing concept – and we are proud to be fundraising for Nordoff Robbins, the UK’s largest independent music therapy charity.

For some people, music isn’t just entertainment, it is therapy; it is their lifeline and main support. Nordoff Robbins is an amazing charity which uses the power of music to encourage and engage with the most isolated and vulnerable amongst us. Nordoff Robbins helps people connect and here at ted that means the world to us. From the age of one to 101, many people benefit from the incredible work Nordoff Robbins therapists do, children like Patsy and Betsy, and people like Dot.

Our ted team are pushing themselves to the max by participating in the London Triathlon, the world’s biggest triathlon, on Saturday 27th July.

We have complete novices putting themselves through gruelling training schedules to swim, bike, race through our capital city, all in aid of Nordoff Robbins. By undertaking the ultimate sporting challenge, we hope to smash our fundraising target.

Music therapy helps the most vulnerable flourish again, it reaches them in a way that words sometimes can’t. Music can boost self-esteem and provide relief from the fear and stress of living with challenging life conditions.

Please help us reach it and help children like Patsy, who has autism, have access to music therapy free of charge. Pasty was diagnosed aged two, when she was still not speaking. Her inability to communicate makes her very frustrated, which results in her having meltdowns during which she harms herself. She cannot join in games, events or play, which makes her very isolated.

However, since starting music therapy with Nordoff Robbins, life has changed for Patsy – it has given her creative music making opportunities which have allowed her to express herself, communicate, develop her social skills and play with other children which Kathy, Patsy’s mum, has described as amazing and life-changing.

In the words of mum, Kathy: “While she may be different, she is certainly not less. I knew my little girl could achieve if she just got the right support, and I also knew that music could be the key."

Nordoff Robbins has also helped Betsy, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour, at two years old and, after 18 months of gruelling chemotherapy, she was tragically left blind. It’s hard to imagine how isolating and scary this must have been for Betsy, and her family.

Music therapy provided her crucial relief from the fear of living with cancer at such a young age. Tuesday’s used to be a hard day for Betsy, dominated by chemotherapy and health checks. But as her mum, Rochelle, explains: “now Tuesdays have become Betsy’s music day where she has fun, plays music and chats to Oli her therapist."

Music can make a huge difference and fill a void in lonely lives dominated by dementia. Dot is the most incredible lady who sings with her music therapist, Richard. Music provides people living with dementia a means of self expression and meaningful social communication.

Richard said: “It’s very rewarding to witness how music can help people living with dementia to overcome their confusion and anxiety and take them to ‘another place’ where they regain orientation, connect with other people and become reconnected to their own past positive emotional experiences. Getting to know the people I work with in this way and seeing the positive changes when they become involved in music is a continual inspiration to me."

Please open your hearts and support our cause to help team ted achieve their goal and give more people in need the gift of music with Nordoff Robbins.
