Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am a high school student who is very concerned about the rapid death of many coral reefs around the world. Climate change, along with pollution and improper fishing techniques are devastating huge areas of reefs, and we as a species have to change our actions to stop the declination of reefs.
This fund raiser is part of a school project where we were tasked to raise money for a charity we love. I immediately thought of Coral Reef Alliance, who I have supported for years.
The coral reef alliance is a non-profit charity that was started in 1994 by Stephen Colwell, who got together a small band of coral reef enthusiasts and scuba divers that wanted to save the beautiful lifemasses from global warming. The group quickly realised that it would be impossible to complete this daunting task alone, so they started to reach out to the communities and people that lived by or rely on coral reefs. They started to work globally along many spots along the equator to save these incredible ecosystems. They are creating a very interesting solution called Adaptive Reefscapes which creates environments where the corals can adapt to climate change. Their goal is to create 45 adaptive reefscapes by the year 2045 to hopefully save enough corals to save the reefs.
For 25 years they have been innovating, fragging, building and placing artificial reefs around many locations. They are most active in Fiji, Hawaii, indonesia, and central america. Another problem facing the reefs is overfishing. They are collaborating with the governments of Fiji and the Honduras to create sustainable fisheries.
