Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I completed the Virgin London Marathon in 2015. I aimed to raise enough for a powered wheelchair, and it was heart-warming that so many people donated and together we raised £2800! I'm still raising funds and I’m still and I'm hooked on running!

This year marks the 10th anniversary since I ran the London Marathon and I’m celebrating by adding swimming and cycling to the running. On 28 September 2025, I completed the Warwickshire Triathlon with Faith 4ward; four fantastic and fabulous friends from Community Church, Chafford Hundred, Essex, rivalling Cool Runnings as we were self-taught with so little training but sooo much faith!

A year before the marathon, I joined my local gym to lose weight. I was way out of shape, but not out of steam. I was a confirmed couch potato committed to conquering the plump! My initial inspiration to run came from my two children after they completed the Arsenal-sponsored Centrepoint 6k run at the Emirates Stadium. That was my first time attending a run, and I thought I could do that. I later realised that was the children's only race! I wasn't put off and started running. I ran and ran... and just like in the movie Forest Gump, I've been running ever since... not non-stop though!

Seriously speaking, going from minute runs to a marathon and a marathon to a triathlon isn’t easy. But, to me, it reflects the challenge some disabled children face every day just trying to climb out of bed. I have worked with disabled children and young people for the past 20 years and always encourage them to beat the barriers so I'm I’ve done my best to train and do the Triathlon.

14 years ago, I set up Church Enabled to enable children and young people with a disability to access church and enable churches to understand and support people with a disability. So, I chose to run in support of Whizz Kidz; a national charity that aims to improve the quality of life of disabled children and young people in the UK through the provision of customised mobility equipment, advice and support. Their vision is a society in which every young wheelchair user is mobile, enabled and included. Our motto at Church Enabled is "Zero tolerance to barriers" so it's befitting that I'm supporting Whizz Kidz to help children beat the barriers by taking on a triathlon.

Since Whizz Kidz was founded in 1990, they have transformed the lives of thousands of disabled children by providing essential mobility equipment to help young disabled people become independent. For the first time in our history, we’ve had to close our waitlist because the demand for wheelchairs and mobility equipment is overwhelming.

That means children who desperately need help can’t even apply. Over 1,000 children are currently stuck waiting, while their childhood slips away day by day. So, please visit the following website, read the stories and find out how you can transform children's lives:
