Story
This year, our mini-challenge is aiming to raise $1200 for new text books across 3 year levels at Xayadeth College! In addition to purchasing new text books we also want to raise enough to get the books copied so each student can have their own book. Many students who come to study in Luang Prabang are from poor, rural villages. Their families are often rice farmers, where wealth is considered having enough to eat. These students come to Luang Prabang to study in order to improve their futures and break the cycle of poverty, yet many of them cannot afford the additional costs of text books. If we can raise enough money to have a class set of texts we'll ensure that those students who cannot afford the books still have access to them, and thus a better future.
Here at GVI Laos we're firm believers in education. We think it is a powerful tool that will change the world. We're also a firm believers in self empowerment. If people have access to the tools to change their lives, not only will they use those tools, they'll teach others around them to do so as well.
That's what we do here at GVI Laos. We provide locals access to education and skills that they might otherwise never have had the opportunity for.
Laos is one of the world's poorest countries. The daily struggle to survive for many poor rural families is so extreme that sometimes they can't even afford to feed and clothe their own children. Often the only chance their kids have to break the cycle of poverty is to receive an education. Sadly, many families can't afford the bus fare, uniforms, books, pens and pencils for their children to go to school. Thankfully, charities such as GVI CT can provide much needed funds to sponsor those costs so these children can continue to study, learn and grow and in turn provide for their communities in the future.
Many young people in Laos today simply want the chance to get an education. They are dedicated, motivated students and strongly treasure their educations.
Give your money real value, invest in knowledge.
