We fund research into type 1 diabetes to find a cure for type 1 diabetes

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This November marks the 10th anniversary of my youngest son Ben’s diagnosis of type 1 diabetes at 18mths old.  Every single day and night since has brought its own challenges . Life with type 1 is relentless and at times exhausting. Every meal, every outing, every physical activity, every emotion, even changes in the weather will all affect Ben’s control and so type 1 is ALWAYS on my mind. There have been many highs and lows - tears over cannula changes and sensor insertions, frustrations and fears with hypos, then there are the times we’re winnning - football games won despite sky high blood glucose, sleepovers where Ben takes all the responsibility on his wee shoulders and smashes it.. the list goes on. The last ten years have seen many advances both in technology to help Ben live a normal healthy life and also in research towards a cure. There is still a lot of work to be done. At diagnosis we were told there would be a cure within ten years. Lost and desolate this is what we needed to hear. Now I, and my group of foolhardy friends who are joining me in various challenges, want to do our bit to make that statement true for ten years from now. So to the challenges -

Everest base camp trek,  Half marathon, tough mudder, abseil (forth bridge), parachute jump, ten Munro’s in a weekend, London to Paris cycle, Ben’s secret challenge (could be the scariest out them all!),Berlin marathon and finishing with the JDRF one walk.

I may well have bitten off more than I can chew with this lot !! I truly appreciate every bit of support and every penny donated xx
