Story

Hi Everyone,

I've joined the Vodafone Foundation team and signed up for the Trans-alp Cycle Challenge.

I start the challenge in Lausanne, Switzerland on the shores of Lac Leman. The route heads South-east along the scenic shores of the lake. The mountains slowly start to close in as I begin the climb out of Switzerland and into France. Heading south through the Alps, I will be tackling some of the most iconic mountain passes the region has to offer before the long, 115KM+ descent back down to sea level and into the city of Nice.

Famous Tour de France climbs included are:

Cormet de Roselend (1,967M)
Col D’Iseran (2,764M & fourth highest paved pass in France)
Col du Galibier (2,642M)
Col D’Izoard (2,360M)
Cime de la Bonnette (2,860M & highest paved road in France)

Total distance 520KM in 5 days, from 7th to 11th September 2022

Now I know you're all thinking, she cycles loads, that's easy peasy.....well it's not and here's why.

- I turn the big Five-0 in February 2022. Even my keenest cycling friends think this is a difficult challenge.

- Most of my races are on the flat or slightly rolling courses, hills are not my forte (I came 2nd to last in the 2020 National Hill Climb....see what I'm saying!)

I really want to push out of my comfort zone on a bike and break new ground to show that older women can take on the younger guys in this challenge.

I've paid for the costs, but I need to raise £3,700 fundraising to support Vodafone Foundation's Your Planet campaign, to help protect the world we live, love and breathe. With the health of our planet reaching crisis point, I'm taking a stand to support charities that are tackling biodiversity loss and plastic pollution through wildlife and marine conservation technology respectively.

100% of all donations support the work of the Tusk Trust - to help protect Africa's endangered wildlife - and The Ocean Clean-Up - to help remove 90% of floating ocean plastic pollution.

I've got a number of fundraising things up my sleeve (might be a clue there), but please do support me in the meantime.

Thank you for your support!
