We fly children to hospital to receive specialist care and treatment

Story

Lucy Air Ambulance for Children is the only charity in the UK that funds flights for children to hospital by aeroplane. They exist to ensure children are able to access essential medical care regardless of distance. The NHS has no dedicated funding for air transfers and so relies on Lucy AAC's support. They are trying to help as many families as possible but need your support to make these flights happen. If you would like to know more about their work, please visit: www.lucyaac.org.uk

Last August our little grandson Sebastian was born prematurely at 23 weeks and 6 days. He weighed a tiny 600 grams but was perfect in every way. Carla (my daughter in law) was visiting her family in Sheffield when she went into labour. Sebastian had a tricky road ahead of him and it was hard for Liam, our son and Lyla’s brother, and Carla being away from home. It was decided it would be best for them all to move Sebastian to a neonatal intensive care unit nearer to their home and for his surgical needs moving forward. Sebastian’s needs and being so tiny meant he couldn’t travel by road and a helicopter couldn’t carry all the equipment needed for him so Lucy children’s air ambulance stepped in to help. On the day of his transfer they didn’t just look after Sebastian but Liam and Carla as well. They collected him from Jessops in Sheffield and flew him from Doncaster to Norwich. Liam travelled with Sebastian along with a team including a doctor and nurse. Sebastian was transported with safety, care and love ready for his ongoing treatment at Norwich and it allowed Liam and Carla to pop home for changes of clothes or a hot bath when they liked and for Liam to return to work when he could.

Myself and Lyla, who will only just be 16 when we jump have decided to do a parachute jump to raise money for Lucy Children's Air Ambulance. I’m scared of flying so I figure jumping out of plane shouldn’t be an issue.! We have paid for both our jumps as we want 100% of donations to benefit Lucy Air Ambulance and the great work they do. We are fundraising in Sebastian’s memory so Lucy Air Ambulance can carry on helping sick babies and children to be nearer to home or treatment. Sebastian was the most special, brave and loved little boy who touched so many hearts with his strength and courage 💙

Alongside the parachute jump is a raffle with some wonderful prizes of alcohol hampers and vouchers all kindly donated by place of work Tesco Lowestoft, Dean, Sharon and Stuart thank you.!  My son Liam is also part of the Tesco Family working in Bradwell express.  So for every £5 you sponsor Lyla and I you gain you one entry into the raffle. Sponsor us £20 and you will get four entries. We have some brilliant prizes so please sponsor us and you may also win a terrific prize in the raffle
