Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My brother and I  am are Running belfast city marathon, as well as my mum running the belfast marathon relay to provide funds for a charity called M.E SUPPORT NI. M,E (Myalgic encephalomyelitis) also known as Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), is a condition were the body constantly feels fatigued like having a dead battery. ME/CFS affects people of all ages with 91% of people not being diagnosed. People  think having a hangover is bad well for people with M.E it is like having a constant hangover. It can take longer than two hours for suffers to make the transaction from sleep to awake. ME/CFS affects brain function, making thinking, processing and  multitasking  on a daily basis a lot more difficult. This condition can be triggered by infection, surgery or an accident.

Some common facts:

1. A major problem which people with ME/CFS face is that they often feel like no one believes them because they are told its all in there head.

2. other symptoms of this condition include: mental exhaustion, muscle pain, cognitive impairment, insomnia, lymph nodes, sore throats and poor immune system.

3. it is 4 times more common in women than men. the average age of onset is 33 but can be as early as 3 years old.

4. people suffer from social isolation and depression

5. There is no cure for this condition

6. changing life style can  help with symptoms, such as getting 7-9 hours sleep a night as well as having a balanced diet.

ME Support NI is a Charity which provides information, support and practical advice for people (including children), families and carers who are affected by M.E. They aim to improve the lived experience of those children, young people and adults by providing expert knowledge along with an understanding of ME/CFS.
