Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Starting on 1st September I am walking the Camino Portuguese a route that goes from Lisbon to Porto and onto Santiago de Compostella in Spain. Four years ago I walked the Camino de Santiago across Spain. The Portuguese walk is a distance of 382.5 miles and I am taking five weeks out to do it. I am doing it for two reasons.
The first is because it is a challenge and as I am 60 on 22nd August it seemed a good way of proving to myself that I am not quite ready for the "knacker’s yard." Sometimes you just have to do these things just to prove things to yourself. The company I work for, Hanover, a national provider of retirement housing, have been supportive and a thank you to them. I am taking 6 weeks out to do it.
Secondly I want to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society. I have worked with people who have this cruel disease and it is something that is on the increase as we all live longer. In particular I want to dedicate it to someone I knew well who I saw slip into this terrible condition, and from being a lively independent man he became a frightened, confused, sad and lost soul who did not know the world.
I hope I can raise some money to go to this charity and also raise the profile of Alzheimer's.
Thanks for your support and interest
