Story
Please take time to read my story about this lovely girl.
What is Cystic Fibrosis?
- Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is one of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases.
- It is caused by a faulty gene that controls the movement of salt and water in and out of the cells within the body.
- Cystic Fibrosis affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food.
- Over 9,000 people in the UK have Cystic Fibrosis.
- If two carriers have a child, the baby has a 1 in 4 chance of having Cystic Fibrosis.
- Over two million people in the UK carry the faulty gene that causes Cystic Fibrosis - around 1 in 25 of the population.
- Over 95% of the UK CF population is Caucasian, but CF affects many ethnic groups.
- Each week, five babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis.
- Each week, two young lives are lost to Cystic Fibrosis.
-
Currently half of the CF population will live past 41 years of age, and improvements in treatments mean a baby born today is expected to live even longer.
Abbie (Pink is her favourite colour so every time her name comes up it will be in PINK) has to take over 40 tablets every day, as well as inhaled drugs and physiotherapy to clear her lungs.
The Vest® 105 Airway Clearance System has been lent to Abbie for a period of 12 weeks to see if it helps Abbie's condition. Abbie has been using the The Vest® 105 Airway Clearance System and in the 9 weeks she has been using it. It has successfully helped her with her breathing. now we know it helps Abbie we need to get her own vest.
So they now need to raise £6995.00 + vat and sadly the Primary Care Trust are unable to help her fund it.
This is where I come in, I have said that I will run (yes I did say run)the Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday 30th September to raise as much funds as I can to help her reach the goal of £6995-Plus Vat. Those of you that know me know that I am not built for running but never the less I am going to do it so we can raise funds for this lovely brave girl Abbie.
I will keep you updated with photos of how the training is going. Bitton Road Runners coaching staff & members are offering their surport to help me train for this event.
I know that there is not a week that goes buy where someone you know will ask for your help and I am now one of those people, so please help me to help Abbie by sponsoring me as much as you can, also please remember to tick the gift aid box this means that ALL the money raised will go to help Abbie and nothing goes to the tax man.
To those of you that have taken the time to visit & read this & hopefully donated to Team Abbie may I say a big thank you fromTerry Taz Davis
